Bob Smith, LMSW, CAADC, CCS

Chief Behavioral Health Officer

Bob has worked in the behavioral health field since 2009, starting his career in a residential/withdrawal management substance use facility in Sault Ste. Marie, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. While there, he developed a passion for helping others while attending Lake Superior State University with an educational focus on Substance Use Prevention and Treatment.

Bob received his BSW and MSW from Grand Valley State University, pursuing his career in Social Work. Since joining Cherry Health in 2013, Bob has filled various roles, most recently as Director of Behavioral Health Therapy Services. He helped to establish Cherry Health’s Outpatient Office-Based Opioid Treatment programming, providing services to those struggling with an opioid use disorder. Bob is passionate about the work we do at Cherry Health. He has worked closely with organizational leadership and his fellow Behavioral Health directors to expand how people access Behavioral Health services at Cherry Health, including fully integrating Behavioral Health into all programs. Bob advocates for expanded access to Narcan and harm reduction approaches in the field and finds value in community connections and expanding resources for those we serve.

As Chief Behavioral Health Officer, Bob will continue to support and expand integration efforts organizationally, including Cherry Health’s expanded focus on implementing the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) model focused on providing integrated behavioral health services across service lines and ensuring access to care to support the communities we serve.
